My name is Valerie Sherman and I’m extremely excited to be  at Ashley Elementary! I’m from Lincolnwood, Illinois, a suburb just north of Chicago and moved to Denver in July 2021. I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I majored in Clinical Psychology and minored in Spanish, and completed graduate school at Illinois State University. I aim to become fluent in Spanish and utilize this skill in my future career. I completed my internship at DCIS at Fairmont in Denver Public Schools. I’m very passionate about working with children and hope to positively contribute to their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. Some of my passion areas include Autism, trauma-informed intervention and restorative practices. I have a 3 year-old Australian Shepherd (Keetah) who has been converted to a mountain dog within the last year (as pictured). I enjoy traveling and some of my favorite places have been: Egypt, Italy, Greece, and I studied abroad in Arequipa, Peru during the summer of 2019. I enjoy kickboxing, playing coed volleyball and softball, hiking, learning to snowboard and listening to audiobooks and podcasts in my free time. I’m so grateful and excited for the opportunity to get to know and gain valuable knowledge and experiences from the students, staff, and families at Ashley Elementary! I also hope to be a positive presence and contributor to the school community. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon!
