Dawn Chung

Math Intervention/Senior Team Lead

Student/Family Support Team

Hello Ashley Elementary! My name is Dawn Chung and I’m so excited to join the community as a 3rd grade Literacy teacher. I have been a teacher for ten years. Half of which was as a 2nd/3rd grade classroom teacher and the other half as a Special Educator. I am excited to join Ashley because of the strong sense of community and neighborhood participation. I’m also excited about bringing my daughter, Olivia, to join the ECE 4 Spanish program – we are #1 on the waitlist, cross your fingers! I am passionate about fostering community in the classroom, developing life-long learning skills, and letting students be the leaders of their learning. I model being a life-long learner and am just finishing up 36 additional masters level college credits for the year to stay sharp! I’ve spent the majority of my teaching career in Expeditionary Learning schools as well as 2 years abroad teaching 2nd grade at an International School in Istanbul, Turkey. Most recently I was a Literacy Intervention/Special Education teacher at Westerly Creek Elementary.

In my free time I love going on mini adventures with my family. My daughter just learned to ride a bike so we’ve been going up and down the sidewalks and alleys, bringing picnic lunches to the park, and playing outside in our tiny plastic pool! My husband, Heesoo, is an Environmental Geophysicist so he spends his days managing projects to clean up the Earth. Together as a family we love to ski, ride bikes, swim, and play outside as much as possible. We also love eating, so we like trying new foods and our go to favorites are Ethiopian, Sushi, Korean, and Thai food. Olivia and I took a bike ride to look at Ashley from the outside and we can’t wait until the doors open and we can see the inside and meet everyone in the community!
